This is what I would like to be. This is what I believe I can become. Maybe it's a little more difficult since I live in a small town in Sicily. On this blog I want to describe how my life here gradually changes and evolves. Describe my little successes and failures. Enjoy!

January

Popatrzcie sami : )

It's almost the end of January, and I still haven't written any post! However in the new year, you can changes with the naked eye: from now on the posts will be in three languages: so that everyone can understand everything.

What's new in January? Firstly, a lot of work, as my new students arrived. Secondly, I took advantage of the sales season, and last Friday I visited only two stores (no time for more) and bought three (!) pairs of shoes.

Just take a look:

The other thing that has not changed on the blog is certainly the fact that there still will be a lot of pink : ) Mom, thanks for forwarding me the new gallery, full of "pink pictures", from which I "stole"a few pictures:

La cosa che non è cambiata sul blog è certamente il fatto che ci sarà un sacco di colore rosa : ) Mamma, grazie per avermi inoltrato le foto piene di questo colore, da cui ho "rubato" un pò di immagini:

Musze miec taki dywan!

You see, it's not about having a Barbie house, all in pink, but these little touches that enliven the space and help you cheer up!

Besides, I discovered today that Kristen Stewart posed for the February issue of Vogue. Not that I was delighted with her beauty (I think that she is too transgressive, and always looks annoyed), but here they managed to "change" her into a truly beautiful woman. Here, an interview about the session:

Inoltre, ho scoperto oggi che Kristen Stewart posa per il prossimo nuero di Vogue a febbraio. Non è che mi  piace tantissimo (credo che sia troppo trasgressiva, sembra sempre scocciata), ma qui sono riusciti a volorizzare la sua bellezza. Qui, una intervista circa la sessione:

...a tutaj najpiekniejsze (wedlug mnie) zdjecia:

...and here the most beautiful (in my personal opinion) pictures:

...e qua le più belle (secondo me) foto:

Postaram sie, aby czestotliwosc moich postow zwiekszyla sie do choc 1 na tydzien. 1 post na miesiac to zdecydownie za malo, macie racje!

I'll try to increase the frequency of my posts to at least once a week. 1 post per month is definitely not enough, you are right!

Milego tygodnia wszystkim zycze!

Have a nice week, everyone!

Buona settimana a tutti!

2 cool commericials to start the new the week with a smile :)

Today, I wanted to share with you the 2 new super cool commercials (thank you, R!) that can really make you day! : )
1. This English spot has won the YouTube Ad of the Year (2010). The name of it is Embrace Life, and was commissioned by Sussex Safer Roads to Alexander Commercials agency.
It promotes secure driving, and most of all it reminds us the importance of wearing seat belts. Take a look.

2. This one, is the new commercial of Fiat (500) which has had its debut on the American market. Maybe it's a little bit too long and too "commercial" but overall, I like this light attitude, the "chill-out-in-an-Italian-way" approach:

Fashion, fashion, fashion... and sth sweet in the end : )

This will be a long post. I have found so many beautiful new pictures and ad campaigns I just cannot do otherwise but share them all with you.

1. Patrizia Pepe Firenze advertisement campaign. One of the most amusing and original ads I have seen in a long time. Go to the website and have fun discovering who Patrizia really is, what are her likes and dislikes, what she does in her free time, and many more : )

2. Louis Vuitton Fall 2010 campaign. Oh, it's so adorable. have first spotted it when sitting at the Catania airport waiting for my flight to Milan and flipping  through Italian Vanity Fair. Chic, style and vogue together combined with incredible simplicity and the allure of the 50's, that's what Jo loves.

I have recently come across Fashionolgie website which I find absolutely stunning. That's what the website says about Louis Vuitton campaign:

In a follow up to his voluptuous Fall 2010 runway cast, Marc Jacobs selected Christy Turlington, Natalia Vodianova, and Karen Elson — coincidentally, none of whom walked in the collection's show — for the accompanying campaign. "This season we are working with three of the most beautiful women, I think, in the world," he says in the making-of video. "Blonde, brunette, and a redhead." They also span one model in her 20s, one in her 30s, and one in her 40s. This marks the fourth Vuitton campaign captured by Steven Meisel, who constructed the '50s set in a Manhattan studio space.

Here's the making-of-video:

3. Talking about Fashiologie, I'm so glad it confirms and reassures me: socks are in vogue this season! Living in a country where Calzedonia shops are everywhere, not getting a few pairs every season is a sin.

4. A new "outfit" for Evian mineral water bottles designed by Issey Miyake. They are so lovely!

5. Last but not least (and it has nothing to do with fashion, by the way), I followed Nigella's recipe and made these delicious banana muffins! I have sweet tooth but trust me this is a mouth-watering dessert : )

Happy Halloween everyone!

Odds and ends

Recently I have seen some really cool things that I'd like to share with you...

1. Jennifer Lopez and her kids for Gucci children's collection..  Plus here you can see the film behind the scenes with an interview with Jennifer.

2. Scarlett Johanson for the newest Dolce &Gabbana make up campaign called: Ethereal Beauty Collection. I think this is how real Scarlett should look like everyday:

3. The longest clip in the world /over 34mins) by Kanye West for the song "Runaway". It really is art (here's the shorter version):

Happy weekend!

I just wanted to show you the newest Italian ad for Ikea. It's absolutely hilarious, in my humble opinion, of course! As far as I know it was produced in Italy only and exclusively for the Italian market : (

Some help with translation: at the end of the clip one of the guys looks at his watch and says: "So, see you tomorrow" and the other one responds: "Yeah, I believe so". And then you can hear the policeman saying: "Hello!". In the end you can see the writing: "You need little to change things". The first background voice reads it and adds: "With Ikea it's really easy" and then the 2 voice shouts: "(turn off the) Lights!"

I'm going to do some dog-shopping in the afternoon : ) I need to buy some toys, the leash and collar, of course : ) Two weeks and Artù will be with us! It's high time we started the preparations! : )

And this is for Al. I don't know why but the first time I saw the clip and heard the song, I thought of you : )

Siracusa Spot.

This spot my bf showed me yesterday presenting Siracusa which hosted the last PowerBoat Championship. I like it. This is where I live. I'd like to draw your attention to the Italian "Macho Man" who speaks in the video. Funny..? Well, rather pitiful, especially if you have to meet dudes like these on a daily basis.

Anyway, tell me what you think.

Mercedes Ad

Are you at work just like me? Yeah.. Monday AGAIN... Bleh.... Just to cheer you up and not to distract you too much from your work, a little ad, my bf showed me some days ago. I was saving it for the right moment. I think it finally came... : )

Enjoy!

It was banned, you knew it? In my humble opinion it's absolutely exquisite! Some brands, some makes of cars, for example, should be only for people who really deserve them, not those who can "simply" afford them : )

Hope this helped you a little bit. Have a nice, light Monday everyone!

Calzedonia Spot

Another week has passed! The weather is different in comparison to one week ago. I used to waer shorts and t-shirt, now I need a jacket to go out! Plus the strong, horrible wind and rain! I look sth like this these days:

Anyway, weather is not sth I wanted to tell you about. There's a new Calzedonia spot on tv now. Do you know Calzedonia? It's one of my favourite Italian brands selling tights, stockings, socks, leggings, swimming and bathing costumes and other eye-pleasing items : ) I like it because of the huge variety of colours, styles, patterns. I mean everyone can always find sth suitable for them!

Ok, let's watch and then comment!

Did you like it as much as I did when I first saw it? I'm sure you did! The first question I asked my bf was: But this song, is it famous? And he responded: Yes, it should be quite popular, it's the Italian anthem. I was like: ???!!!!!!!!!

No, I was like this:

o you wanted to hear the original version? Here it is, especially for you:

I mean: isn't it amazing? And then it struck me. In the end of the spot you can read: "For Italy, Vittoria, Laura, Francesca and all the others". Italy is treated as a woman here. It's so ingenous, original and brilliant at the same time! : )

What are you up to this weekend? I want to see this film:

I then I need to do some shopping and maybe I'll drop in on Calzedonia? : )

Sunday catch up.

Good afternoon everyone! I finally found some spare minutes to dedicate to my blog... The weeks pass quickly and I've noticed that I haven't been able to put more than 1 post a week recently.. That's sad, but here in Sicily, it's all about summer: the tourists come in summer and so do the American students who come to my school... Right now, for example we have a special program whose main subject is Nutrition in Italy. It's all about the way the Italians eat, what they eat, why they eat it, is what they eat healthy or not (comparing to American food, I'm sure they don't need to study a lot to find the right answer; of course no offence!), they are going to study the Mediterranean diet, it's elements, benefits and drawbacks, etc. In fact, tomorrow they are going to visit one of the big supermarkets to find out what the Italians stuff their fridges with... I can tell you/them: right now, it's definitely gelato : )

On another note. Look what I received for my name day from my bf's parents this week:

I feel so embarrassed since I never really celebrate my name day, it's always too complicated to choose the right day you should be celebrating your name day on. In Poland the same name is usually repeated several times during a year but the tradition says you should be celebrating it on the first date calendar indicates after your birthday. The problem is the first date that the calendar indicates is not famous at all for my name so no one would really remember it. Therefore it's kind of perplexing... Anyway, I loved the earrings, they're silver and the flowers are made of jade! : ) On the other hand, I wonder if jade will be lucky for me... What I mean is that several months ago my Mum bought me a bracelet, earrings and a pendant, all made of coral and to my surprise it turned out it's not for me at all. First I lost an earring, then after some weeks the bracelet and then another earring... The things didn't want to "stick" with me... Strange but I believe it's true...

Well, anyway, today on the beach I read Vanity Fair and these are the intresting things I found:

1. How do you like this Dior spot with Marion Cotillard (she played Edith Piaf if you remember). Very Hitchcock style, don't you think? This spot is called Lady Noire but at the end we can see there'll be another part of the film called Lady Rouge. I forsee it will be in colour, in the 50's style, and Cotillard will look like Kim Basinger in LA Confidential. That's my guess. Cannot wait to see if I'm right.

2. Did you know that in England until several weeks ago there was a radio that played 20 min piece in loop from 6.00am to midnight?! It wasn't a song though, it was a songbird recording registered 20 years ago by Quentin Howard (creator of the radio station) in his garden. The radio conquisted 500.000 listeners but had to stop and was taken over by another station called Amazing Radio (which plays normal rock, jazz music)... If you're curious about the "bird piece", go to this website.

That's all for me today. After Ella's review (thanks!!!), I may go to the cinema this evening to see Hangover : )

A message of light.

According to Wikipedia: Enel (Ente Nazionale per l'Energia eLettrica) is an Italian energy provider and the third largest energy provider in the world (includes 22 countries now). It has just launched a new spot:

At first I didn't really understand it, then after having seen it a few times in a row on YouTube, it just dawned on me: it's indeed a message of light! The girl sends a message to her Dad by turning on the light in her bedroom and with luck and help of other people it finally arrives at the destination: her Dad in the end says: "Buonanotte anche a te" ("Goodnight to you too"). I was enchanted! It's so sweet: the immages, the light, the music everything matches and becomes an integral unity, don't you think? What's more after the second time I saw it I noticed the word: "restauracja" (Polish word for restaurant) and thought Enel had invested in Poland as well and that I could add this ad (sorry for the homophone) to my previous post about the microwave : ) I checked on Wikipedia and it turned out it was Slovakia, not Poland that has some Enel power plants (Slovak and Polish are very similar). Anyway, it's close to my heart because this spot too arrives at the conclusion that the world is small, more and more people travel for work, for family, for pleasure but thanks to the highly developed technology we're able to keep in touch, we can call, we can send emails the distances become shorter and shorter. Thanks to the Internet I can talk to my parents several times a week and I pay almost nothing for it. I can take a plane and after approx. 3 hours I'll be in my country. I feel grateful & lucky. Isn't it great?

Chanel...

I know I'm being boring but I just couldn't resist... I'm writing about another commercial...

Chanel no.5 has always been a symbol. A symbol of elegance, vogue, grace and luxury. Since 1921 (the year in which the perfume was officially introduced), Chanel invested lots of money promoting its product (even though, to my mind, this particular brand doesn't really need it, I could bet it would sell like hot cakes even without it) asking the most famous actresses like Marilyn Monroe, Catherine Deneuve, Carole Bouquet, Estella Warren to become spokesmodels for the fragrance.

Have you already seen the newest Chanel no.5 commercial-film with Audrey Tautou (yes, that's the one who interpreted Amélie in Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain 8 (!!!) years ago)? It's sooo beautiful... Audrey is another person/character here: more sensual and "adult" but her intense look, the brightness and sincerity of her eyes remained the same. As always, I want you to savour the longer version of the commercial (2'20min). If you would like to see the interviews with the actress and the director, visit the official website of Chanel5.

Just after seeing that one, I have to show you the earlier commercial of Chanel no.5 starring Nicole Kidman. Please notice the interesting coincidence: Tautou shot the spot just after completing her newest film "Coco avant Chanel", in which she interpreted no one else but the famous designer. Plus, the director of the commercial is Jean-Pierre Jeunet, the same who directed "Amélie"! On the other hand, we have Nicole who agreed to shoot the commercial just after her famous performance in "Moulin Rouge!" (which became a strong inspiration for the plot of the spot itself) and again, both the film and the commericial were directed by the same person: Baz Luhrmann. By the way, have you known that the three-minute commercial produced for Chanel No. 5 perfume made Kidman the record holder for the most money paid per minute to an actor after she reportedly earnedmillion for the 3 minute advert?!

I think I prefer the one with Nicole. Cannot really explain why... Maybe because I will always associate Audrey with the role of young, naive, sweet Amélie (unfortunately this is an example of so called trap-movies that tend to "trap" an actor in a particular role forever...). Maybe Nicole is more convincing?

And you? Which one do you like more? Please let me know : )

Thirst for happiness...

Hello everyone! This week (and the next one as well) is quite tough for me, we have new students' arrivals at school so there's plenty of work. Therefore I'm sorry for lack of posts in this period. Finally real Sicilian spring has come, we've got sunny hot long days and short warm nights. I hope to go to the beach the next weekend! : )

Anyway, apart from that, look what I spotted on the Italian tv this week. The new Coca- Cola commercial. Intriguing. First watch, and then I'll translate it for you.

"My name is Giulia and I live in Pisa. Everyone has been speaking about the crisis lately; I am optimist, maybe because all I need are simple things: I prefer riding my bike to going by a super car, I prefer going on holiday to my Granny to staying in a holiday resort, I prefer pizza to sushi, and a sandwich with salami to the caviar. More than going to a gala dinner, I prefer staying at home and eating ragù (typical Italian meat sauce) prepared by Mum. And then all to play the cards!"

And the caption: "The happiness at the table doesn't come to crisis".

So I like this ad for two reasons. The first one is its beauty in its simplicity. In times when the more sth costs the better it is, the more elaborated sth is, the more quality it obtains, it's nice to see sth so incomplex, transparent and uncomplicated. Not many colours used, images which don't "jump" and change on the screen every split second, and most of all, the beautiful meaning and description of happiness in life. I must confess, I'm not like Giulia. I often forget about things she mentioned. Dinner is a normal thing, after all. I like going to holiday resorts, I enjoy dressing up for some important events... Wrong, wrong WRONG. Everything is fleeting and impernanent (look: crisis). I should be happy with things I have and not crave for more and more everyday...

The second thing I like about this ad is that in just a brief 30sec spot it shows us so many features/characteristics we associate with the Italians. Giulia mentioned: Pisa (and you can see the famous leaning Tower in the background) pizza, "panino con salame" (sandwich with salami), ragù and playing cards (this popular Italian hobby I haven't discovered until when I came to Italy actually). That's incredible. So I just wonder if you have seen this ad in your countries and how it is different from this one. What for example would a Spanish girl say? I prefer paella? And an English girl: I prefer fish and chips? What about the pastimes? In Sri Lanka: "..and then all to play cricket!", in Japan: "...and then all to do Ikebana!"?

Or maybe you've seen some other spots describing the nature/habits of a particular nation?

Please let me know, I'm awfully curious! : )
